Shanghai - more affordable than Hong Kong

When we visited Shanghai last January, the weather was perfect. Just a light jacket would keep you warm and no matter how far and long you would walk, you will not sweat.

We like Shanghai because everything was affordable. We were shocked that the breakfast buffet at the Central Hotel was much cheaper than having breakfast in a hotel in Manila.

The Tsing Tao Beer only costs approximately US$1.20 in the hotel room. And even much cheaper when you buy it outside in those 7-11 type of convenience stores.

We chose Central Hotel because it is really "central" to the main Nanjing Road where everything opens early and then closes late. If you are on a budget like us, we would always search for the nearest McDonald's all the time. At Nanjing Road, you will find one open 24 hours.

If you are going to take a tour, the tour operator will never leave-out The Bund. It is usually what tourist take a photo of to show that they are in Shanghai.

And while in Shanghai, you should not miss Xin Tian Di. This is the place where the "expats" and tourists hang-out. At Xin Tian Di, you will find the finest restaurants. In short, if you have a date, this is the place to go. And there is also a Starbucks there.

The Yuyuan Garden is another popular tourist spot and is considered one of China's four finest gardens.

At the end of the Yuyuan Garden you will reach the Yuyuan Bazaar or Market. And there you can find lots of souvenirs, authentic food, the comfort room and of course Starbucks.

And so your trip has ended and then you want to travel to the airport... please do not take the taxi, only take the Shanghai Transrapid Maglev and you will never be late. Actually, we got to the airport way too early.

The only part of Shanghai that we were disappointed with was the Shanghai Pudong Airport. The services are no-where-near that of the Hong Kong Airport. The facilities are not as clean as Hong Kong's. And when we arrived, all restaurants were closed. I think that was a little passed 9pm. Shanghai should leave a good lasting impression.... upto their airport.
